Welcome 2009! Happy new year!

VideoFIRE HITS MY DORMITORYMay 11, '08 3:24 AM
for everyone
A fire broke out around 1230pm today in my dormitory. it started in a room just meters away from mine on the third level. The fire alarm sounded for a while then stopped. we thought there was just a fire drill or the alarm was just being tested. but it sounded again, and it was long the second time around. the room boarder shouted that his room is on fire so we all went out of our rooms. The smoke was already very thick. we were all trying to get our way to the fire exit but the corridors were too narrow because the boxes were scattered all over the place (most of the people are packing up to leave the hall for vacation). It took me quite a while to get my way out of the third level. the only thing i thought that i will need when i get out are my mobile phones so i can contact people. i thought i was going to die or the fire might immediately cover the whole place...smoke was already very heavy on the stairs leading to the exit row. when i arrived at the ground floor, i was so shocked to see the severity of the damage cause by the fire. everyone was startled with the incident. being a campus journalist by heart, i made sure that i could document the incident. who knows, the video might help in the investigation. not even the room boarder could determine what caused the fire incident. soon after, we immediately went to the evacuation area where we were briefed about the standard procedure for emergency cases.

we were only able to go back inside the hall around 2pm. There was nothing left from the possessions of the room boarder. he was supposed to leave for Kuala Lumpur this afternoon to meet his parents but he cannot do it because of the incident. he was investigated 6 times. his laptop, cellphone, passport, wallet and personal belongings all got burned. too bad!

i felt a great relief when i went back to my room seeing everything is OK. now, i can finish packing my things. that incident was truly memorable. it was an eye opener to everyone of us that it is very important to always check the electrical wirings and not to leave all the appliances turned on while we're out of the room.

i was so stressed after what happened! the adrenaline rush was just too great that i didn't save enough energy afterwards. but i really feel sorry for my friend...more than all those material possessions, the experience alone was just too traumatic...

Oh man, that's scary, and it's surprising that it would happen to KR. But I guess it could happen to anybody. I'm happy and relieved that you're safe, and you're friend too. It's unfortunate that he lost all his things, but at least he's safe.

It's scary because I usually ignore fire alarms. The thing is that we don't know the difference between a routine drill and the real thing. I hope NUS looks more into this and revise their drills or something so that people won't think a boy just cried wolf.

HAHAHA! it's my instinct...i remember an fire incident two years ago..there was a container van parked along Porras St., Obrero, Davao City that got on fire because of too much heat. I immediately acted to call 911 but then someone else already did it. So I took my digital camera right away and recorded video clips from the balcony...afterwards, my mom reprimanded me for doing so when i just could have just kept myself safe away from the burning container van. i sent the photos to SunStar.Davao that day but I doubt if they published a news article about it...

yeah, thank GOD i'm safe...ganon pala ang feeling pag may sunog...

exactly! we really thought there was just a fire drill. because the water sprinklers didn't function...the electricity was still running..good thing those NSmen were quick to rescue..
